Product Description
The RC1616 PDC Ridged Cutter is a 16 mm PDC cutting element with a 16 mm total height and 2.0–3.0 mm diamond height. Its extended 16 mm configuration and specialized ridged profile provide an alternative cutting geometry for oil and gas drilling tools and PDC drill bit designs.
RC1616 PDC Ridged Cutter for Oil & Gas Drilling
The RC1616 PDC Ridged Cutter is a specialized Polycrystalline Diamond Compact cutting element developed for PDC drilling tools that require a ridged, non-planar cutting structure.
RC1616 features a 16 mm diameter and 16 mm total height, creating a balanced 16 × 16 mm cutter configuration. Compared with the RC1613, which uses the same 16 mm diameter with a 13 mm total height, RC1616 provides a taller cutter body configuration for drill bit designs requiring additional overall cutter height.
The cutter has a 2.0–3.0 mm diamond height and uses a ridged working profile rather than a conventional flat cutting surface. This geometry creates a specialized interface between the PDC cutter and the formation during drilling.
RC1616 combines a polycrystalline diamond cutting layer with a tungsten carbide substrate. The diamond layer forms the active cutting surface, while the carbide substrate provides structural support for mounting and integration into the drilling tool.
The RC series is documented for oil drilling applications.

Performance Advantages
16mm × 16mm Cutter Configuration - The 16 mm diameter and 16 mm total height create a taller configuration within the 16 mm diameter class. This gives drill bit designers another option when a 16 mm ridged cutter with greater overall height is required.
Extended Cutter Structuret - Compared with RC1613, RC1616 maintains the same 16 mm diameter while increasing the total height from 13 mm to 16 mm. This provides a different structural configuration for PDC drill bit layouts.
Specialized Ridged Cutting Geometry - The ridged working profile creates a non-planar cutting surface. Compared with conventional flat PDC cutters, this geometry provides a different cutter-to-formation contact structure during drilling.
Durable PDC Composite Construction - RC1616 consists of a polycrystalline diamond cutting layer bonded to a tungsten carbide substrate. The combined structure provides the hardness and wear resistance associated with PDC cutting elements together with the mechanical support of the carbide substrate.
PDC Diamond Cutting Technology
The RC1616 uses a shaped, ridged PDC cutting structure rather than a conventional flat cutter face.
Shaped PDC cutters are used to create different cutter-to-formation interaction characteristics within downhole drilling tools. ZZBETTER describes ridged and other non-planar PDC cutters as specialized cutting elements developed for drilling applications.
With a 16 mm diameter, 16 mm total height, and 2.0–3.0 mm diamond height, RC1616 provides a taller 16 mm configuration within the RC ridged cutter series.
The PDC diamond layer is integrated with a tungsten carbide substrate through high-temperature, high-pressure manufacturing technology to form a composite cutting element.
